0x8000000d Ubuntu installation fails with error 0x8000000d installed using the Microsoft Store application with WSL enabled

When using the Microsoft Store to install the Ubuntu Distro, it would not complete installation, even though Windows Subsystem for Linux was turned on. The error indicated is:

0x8000000d

I am on version 1709 Build 16299.19

Windows Subsystem for Linux was turned and the system had been rebooted

Solution

Although WSL was already enabled and I had rebooted, I also received this error when trying to run Ubuntu for the first time. I resolved it by running the enable step again. Open PowerShell as Administrator, and run:

Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux
